# Vim mode

Configure modal editing and command routing.



Vim mode supports normal, insert, visual, and command modes. Motions and
operators are resolved by the Vim provider before application hotkeys. Escape
returns to normal mode; command mode emits typed editor commands.

Visual and visual-line selections accept `d`, `c`, and `y` directly, including
named-register targets. Insert repeat records Unicode grapheme clusters, so
backspace followed by `.` cannot replay a split emoji or combining sequence.

Keep global shortcuts out of active editor scope unless they are explicitly
declared as application-level overrides. Expose the current mode in status text
so the interface remains understandable without relying on color.
