Skills security

Separate server publication from host approval and execution.

The adapter authorizes discovery, direct lookup, resource reads, and directory reads. It denies encoded traversal, slash and backslash smuggling, cross-skill reads, and unpublished provider URIs. It never maps a skill URI to DNS, HTTP, or a local filesystem path.

The host owns these decisions:

  • Label content with the host-assigned source server identity.
  • Obtain fresh approval for each skill, including nested skills.
  • Bind persisted approval to every manifest URI and digest.
  • Recompute size and SHA-256 after every resource read.
  • Treat changed resources and dynamic manifests as requiring fresh policy decisions.
  • Ignore or separately approve allowed-tools and every local execution request.
  • Keep any cache outside filesystem-skill discovery paths.

Digests prove consistency between one server's manifest and its bytes. They do not establish trust, authorship, or safety. The adapter does not activate skills, retrieve evidence, or execute content.
